In order to earn money online, you need to make a website that can get loads of targeted traffic. The targeted traffic is usually the visitors coming from the search engines like Google and Yahoo. In this short article, i will talk about how to choose the right keywords for your website.
The keywords analysis is the work that must be done, prior to making a website even before purchasing your domain name. The recommended tool for doing keyword research is the Google Keyword Tool. Suppose your topic of interest is teeth whitening. Just put your keyword in the Google Keyword Tool box to get the idea of traffic of your target keyword. Please note that you must select the “Exact Match” parameter while taking the idea of traffic. This will give you the exact traffic estimate for your target keywords.
Make a List of All Related Main Keywords:
When you will search for your main keyword on Google Keyword Tool, you will see many other related keywords that are related to your main keyword. Note the top keywords that have the maximum traffic. For instance if you are searching for teeth whitening topic, you will find that natural teeth whitening, laser teeth whitening, home teeth whitening, teeth whitening products, teeth cleaning etc are among the top traffic generating keywords. These all keywords will be your main keywords to focus on.
Your home page will target the keywords like teeth whitening, teeth cleaning, best teeth whitening etc. The other top keywords will be your main category pages. These will be the natural teeth whitening, laser teeth whitening, home teeth whitening etc etc.
Make A List of Your LongTail Keywords:
Please note the till now you have only done the 50% of your analysis. You have selected the target keywords for your home page and for your main category pages. These keywords are usually not easy to be ranked for and it takes many months to get a top ranking for these main keywords. So, you also need to find the low traffic and low competition long tail keywords.
This research can done by searching your secondary main keywords again on Google Keyword Tool. For example, search for the keyword home teeth whitening, you will find many keywords that will be related to this main keyword like best and free home teeth whitening, home teeth whitening strips for children etc etc. As you can see, the longtail keywords consist of 4-5 or more words. Make a list of all the longtail keywords for each of your category.
Now your main keywords research is complete. You have selected the main keywords for your home page and for your category pages. You have also selected the longtail keywords, on which you will write the content to put in the appropriate categories.
Find The Competition:
To get an idea of competition you need to search each of your keyword on Google and see the top 10 results. You want your website in one of these 10 positions, so you need to check why these pages are ranking high. You need to check the number of backlinks to each of these top 10 pages and PR of these backlinks. Suppose for one of your keywords, teeth whitening, the top page have 5000 backlinks and 50 of them are from Pr3 sites etc. It simply means that if you want to take this position you need to take more than these 5000 backlinks. If you can take better backlinks with higher PR and from more related websites, you may even compete the site with 100 backlinks. You can analysis the backlinks of any website by using the SEO Tool Bar For Firefox.
This was just to give u an idea how to check the competition. I recommend you only to target those keywords for which you need lesser number of backlinks. This will give you the results in shorter time and you will not be disappointed.
Refine Your Target keywords List:
Now after checking the competition for all of your keywords, you need to drop the keywords that require lots of high PR backlinks. Select the keywords with relatively low competition. For the home page you can keep some of your high competition keywords.
Write Unique and Useful Content For All Keywords:
Now, you need to make content for all of your target keywords, one page for each longtail keyword. Make sure the content is unique and have useful information, not just altered text from other articles. From all of your pages of longtail keywords, you should link back to your main home page keywords and to your main category keywords.
Buy Domain Name With Your MainKeyword:
When you are going to buy the domain name, make sure that your main keyword is in your domain name. This is the good way to tell search engines that what is your website about and it will help you to get ranking for your target keywords.
Now Focus on Backlinks:
Once all of your content for all of your keywords is up and all the posts are interlinked, you need to get backlinks for all of your keywords. Get backlinks for your main home page keywords as well as for your longtail inner pages. With the passage of time, your website will start getting traffic for your longtail keyword pages and then for your main keyword pages.
Hopefully this article will help you when you will be going to do your keywords analysis.
