Getting Backlinks To Your Site – What Are Quality Backlinks?

In an earlier post i had written about how to drive targeted traffic to your website. The conclusion of the post was that we should concentrate on the traffic or visitors from the search engines like Google and Yahoo to earn online money. It was also concluded that for better search engines rankings we need the backlinks to our website using our target keyword as anchor text. It means that if you want to start earning online without investment you need proper content and good backlinks.
In this article i want to write something about getting backlinks to your site, as this is the most important factor in overall SEO process. For good Search engines ranking, we need quality backlinks. Few quality backlinks will work better than many crappy backlinks. Let us discuss some properties of quality backlinks:
Quality Backlinks Should Be Dofollow – What If You Get NoFollow Backlinks?
It is true that Google does not transfer the link juice from a NoFollow Link. The PR and search ranking is not transferred from a NoFollow Link. So you should try to get the Dofollow links if you want better search engine rankings.
But you should also know that Yahoo search engine uses the Nofollow links in calculating the search engine rankings. It is true that Yahoo sends very little traffic as compared to Google, but it is still important. You can easily rank higher in Yahoo for specific and competitive keywords by getting many NoFollow backlinks from high PR sites. Most of the people focus on Google so you should take advantage and should focus both on Google and Yahoo 
You can find many blogs and forums where webmasters allow the comments but with NoFollow links. Go ahead and take advantage.
But remember that your main focus should be on Google and on DoFollow backlinks if you want good traffic.
From Where Should I Get The Backlink – Footer, Blogroll, Header, Within Content?
I think this is the most important factor while getting backlinks to your website. You can take the site wide links from other blogs like from blogroll and footer links. But please remember that these are not much effective. The links that are within the post or main content, are the most powerful backlinks, in terms of SEO. If you can get a single link from a website post within content, then it is better than a site wide link.
Quality Backlinks Should Be From High PR Sites – What About PR0 Websites?
Of course, if you can get the backlinks from high PR sites, that is good. Google gives weight to the link coming from the high PR sites. But it is also true that getting the backlinks to your site, from high PR sites is not very easy. And you can get the backlinks from PR0 sites easily. So why not to get many PR0 backlinks? If you can get many PR0 backlinks that are coming directly from the content, that will be great.
Backlinks From Different Domains and Network Of Websites?
Another factor while determining the quality of backlinks and search engines ranking, is the source of backlinks. If you are getting 100 backlinks from 10 different websites for your website A. And for you website B, you are getting 100 backlinks but from 100 different websites. Then your website B will be higher in search rankings.
Another factor is the same network of websites. For example you are getting backlinks from 10 websites and all those websites are registered under the same person name, then these backlinks will have less value. Similarly, creating the bloggers blogs or Wordpress blogs with the same user name and linking to one domain will decrease your rankings, as Google will look it as spam. Remember that Google algorithm has become very intelligent and it can determine that relation of different websites to a single person, even if you are creating them with different names and IDs.
So try to be natural and get the links from different websites, persons and countries etc.
Relevancy Of Backlinks
If you can get the backlinks from relevant websites then it is good. But if you can get a backlink from a website whose topic is not relevant to your website topic, even then don’t miss the link. Once the backlink is withing from the content, it will be very useful, even it is from a website with different topic.
Number Of Outbound Links From a Webpage
Suppose your website is getting a backlinks from WebpageA. Suppose that webpageA is also linking to 9 other external websites. It means that page has 10 external links. In this case the total link juice of this web page is divided into 10 equal parts. So you will be getting (100/10=10)10% of this juice. Now suppose you are getting a backlink from WebpageB that is only linking to 2 external pages, including yours. In this case (100/2 = 50), you will be getting 50% link juice.
Again a webpageC having 100 external links. In this case your link will be getting (100/100=1) 1% of the link juice.
So, as a conclusion the number of outbound links on the web page, from where you are getting backlink, should be minimum. But again every link is important. If you are getting a link from a web page with 200 backlinks then it is still better than not to have link
Backlinks From Spam/Porn/Gambling Sites
If you are getting the backlinks from these type of websites, your ranking may be down due to bad neighborhood. So please take care of this issue. Also don’t give the links to these type of websites.
Getting Backlinks From A Webpage Having The Same Title As Your Target Keyword
Suppose your target keyword is “earn money by writing online“. Now if you are getting a backlink to your website from another web page whose title says like “Simple Tips To Earn Money Online“, then this will be a very good backlink for you. Similarly if your target keyword is pandora jewelry store locator then getting a backlink from a web page with title cheap pandora charms will be very good for your web page ranking for that target keyword.
There are many other factors that are considered while determining the quality of backlinks. But the above mentioned are most important, i think.
